For many the unmistakable SAILOR MOON was an entry point into the strange and rewarding stylings of anime. While the uniform clad gals are a staple of the cosplay circuit, it hasn’t quite gotten the cult status it rightly deserves, but it’s now being made easily available for a whole new generation to enjoy.

Viz Media, a North American anime distributor, has announced that they’ve licensed the original series in all its glory. The license, which extends to streaming and digital alongside tradition home video, includes the entire 200 episode run, all three feature films, the tie-in specials and the first North American release of the final TV series, SAILOR MOON SAILOR STARS (remember that one folks?)

The series has been given an overhaul, left unedited in the original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, and while the original Japanese elements including names, stories and relationships have stayed the same, a new production of the uncut English dub has been recorded with a new voice cast.

Viz Media are set to release the franchise digitally complete with English subtitles this summer, followed by the English dub later in the year. The DVD and Blu-ray editions will be released in half-series sets in autumn.

The first four episodes will stream with English subtitles from Monday 19th, with two more episodes released every Monday thereafter, hereby known as Moon-day!
