It appears that Fox’s GOTHAM is really starting to move forward now. Having cast Ben McKenzie as the lead character, Jim Gordon, over the weekend, the show has also confirmed who will be playing Oswald Cobblepot, Alfred Pennyworth, Sarah Essen and Barbara Kean.

As Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, we’ll be seeing ACCEPTED and THE WALKING DEAD’s Robin Lord Taylor. The description of the character reads: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanour.

Joining the show as Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family’s faithful butler, is the ever-grizzled Sean Pertwee. As for GOTHAM’s Alfred, it appears that he will be based on Geoff John’s BATMAN: EARTH ONE version of the character. The description for this particular portrayal of Alfred reads: A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.

For those not familiar with Sarah Essen, she’s a colleague of Gordon’s, his boss even at times, who he has an affair with. BURN NOTICE’s Zabryna Guevara has been cast in this role. The final piece of casting sees BEING HUMAN’s Erin Richards cast as Barbara Kean, the fiancée of Jim Gordon and the future mother of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl.

At present, THE MENTALIST’s Bruno Heller has been working on the script for GOTHAM’s pilot, with will be directed by NIKITA’s Danny Cannon.

GOTHAM is expected to air towards the second half of the year.
