Something that seemed to slip through the Comic-Con news cracks (what with all that Superman/Batman, Avengers and X-Men stuff going on) was the reveal from THE SIMPSONS Panel that the show will be crossing over with fellow Matt Groening creation FUTURAMA in an episode which will either be the finale of season 25 or the premiere episode of season 26 in 2014.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after the panel, SIMPSONS Executive Producer Al Jean said of the crossover; “FUTURAMA is such an easy fit, it’s really funny, and their show lends itself to any variety of plot lines. By having them on, we have a little freedom… The biggest thrill for me is that we don’t have to adjust the animation style.”

According to Jean, the plot will revolve around Bart and Bender, saying; “Bender has to come back from the future to kill Bart because there’s something that Bart does now that makes the future really, really, really bad.”

The two shows have crossed over a couple of times in the comics, but (with the exception of some brief cameos) have not yet crossed over on screen and while it’s not another resurrection from cancelation for FUTURAMA that we were hoping for, it’s a something extra for the fans after the show’s last episode airs in the US in September.

The announcement came a couple of days after it was revealed that THE SIMPSONS will also be crossing over with FAMILY GUY in an episode of that show entitled THE SIMPSONS GUY, which is due to air in the US in late 2014.
