In 1996 Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino teamed up to bring us the cult classic FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. In 1999 Robert Rodriguez & Quentin Tarantino took the money and ran, allowing Miramax to destroy the franchise with two horribly executed back-to-back sequels, TEXAS BLOOD MONEY and THE HANGMAN’S DAUGHTER. Which is why we’re not immediately doing cartwheels at the news that there’s a Rodriguez sanctioned TV series on the way. Those movies had so much potential – particularly the eighteenth century set HANGMAN’S DAUGHTER – but they’re borderline unwatchable, a far cry from the masterful genre mash-up that was the original. With so much mythology still to explore (remember that pyramid the Titter Twister was built upon?), this really has legs. Factor in audiences’ growing hunger for genre TV these days, and Rodriguez could have something huge here. But they’d better get a decent showrunner and writing team on this pronto.

The TV series will air on Rodriguez’s new El Rey cable network, which will launch at the end of the year. We’ll update you as soon as we hear further details…
