While Peter Capaldi’s first series as the Doctor approaches its midpoint, cameras have started rolling on the Christmas special, and an image on the BBC Doctor Who Twitter account has revealed who will be joining the Doctor and Clara this festive season – Nick Frost, Nathan McMullen, and Michael Troughton.

We all know the name Nick Frost. HOT FUZZ, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, SPACED, etc, etc… he must have been playing a long game waiting for a trip in the TARDIS, as his regular co-star Simon Pegg appeared in series 1’s The Long Game back in 2005.

Nathan McMullen will be recognisable to fans of MISFITS – he played telekinetic Finn in series 4 and 5. We don’t have a terrible pun about him.

And finally, Michael Troughton – well, Whovians will recognise the surname. His dad Patrick was the Second Doctor, while his brother David appeared in 2008’s Midnight.

No news yet as to the Steven Moffat-scripted story of the special, but speculate away as to what’s in that big tent and whether this is a multi-Doctor story with Michael reprising his dad’s role (probably not). We’ll have to wait until Christmas Day to know for sure, but only have to wait until this Saturday for more of Capaldi’s Doctor in action – Time Heist airs on BBC One at 7:30.
