One of the highlights of this year’s celebrations for Doctor Who’s fiftieth anniversary – bearing in mind that many lips are still very sealed regarding exactly what’s planned later in the year to honour the iconic sci-fi show’s landmark birthday – is likely to be Mark Gatiss’ An Adventure in Space and Time which will dramatise the origins of the series in 1963.

Few details have been leaked regarding the ninety-minute feature, due to be screened in November on BBC2, but the project does now at least have a producer to guide it to the screen. Matt Strevens, former script-editor for EastEnders and The Bill and most recently producer for E4’s ‘superhero’ drama Misfits revealed his involvement on Twitter over the weekend when he posted Some very exciting news re An Adventure in Space and Time, Dr Who bio we start filming in 2 weeks. I’d tell you but I’d have to kill you.”

It is already known that the drama will be filmed at London’s Wimbledon Studios but as yet no information is available regarding the cast – and Starburst Magazine is as eager as the entire Doctor Who fan community to find out who’s been tasked with bringing back to life the show’s powerhouse Canadian creator Sydney Newman, ambitious first producer Verity Lambert and, of course, the original core cast of William Hartnell (the Doctor), William Russell (Ian), Jacqueline Hill (Barbara) and Carole Ann Ford (Susan). All – or at least, more – is sure to be revealed as the film enters production in February.
