Dexter

While UK audiences wait patiently for Dexter season 7 to premiere on FOX (formerly FXUK), over in the US they’re already gearing up for 8, which was recently pulled forward by four months and will now debut June 30th.

Details of the season (which all involved are now reluctant to call the last) are slowly starting to emerge, with the announcement of two new cast members. Melancholia’s Charlotte Rampling will play Dr. Evelyn Vogel, “a neuro-psychiatrist who specializes in working with young psychopaths and profiling criminals in unorthodox ways,” says EW, who broke the news of her casting. The other new addition is Young Indiana Jones himself (no, not Shia LaBeouf, don’t panic), Sean Patrick Flanery. He’ll be portraying cop-turned Private Investigator James Elroy. Both parts are rumoured to be key roles in the series.

If you’ve seen season 7 in its entirety then you’ll know the show got back on track in a major way after the slightly weaker sixth season, with certain storylines (the Hannah Mackay arc in particular) really sign-posting some finality ahead. Showrunner Scott Buck claims the end-game has been mapped out, but should Showtime demand another season his writers have a contingency plan in place. Hmmm. While we do love the show, it would be good for its legacy to let the writers execute their original plan and finish it with season eight – there’s nothing worse than a show treading water.

Oh, and before we go, here’s a really rubbish teaser trailer for season 8 that contains zero new footage (understandable since they’ve not shot a frame yet), but we thought it might as well whack it in here anyway for completes sake…
