For those who haven’t seen it yet, the latest episode of ARROW, titled SUICIDE SQUAD (review here), sees a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from one Harley Quinn. After being introduced by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini in the fantastic BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, Harley has gone on to become one of the most popular characters in the Batman world, so often hanging on the every word of her beloved Mr. J. With ARROW delivering an Easter egg that had long-time DC fans grinning with excitement, the show’s executive producer Marc Guggenheim has been discussing the brief appearance.

After Harley’s cameo was nearly ruined in a promo spot, Guggenheim told Collider, “I want to manage expectations with respect to Harley Quinn. She was always intended to be an Easter egg. I don’t want people to go in with incorrect expectations and walk away from Episode 16 disappointed. But there is an element to the Easter egg that was not spoiled by the promo that I think people will find a lot of fun.”

Whilst the credits didn’t confirm the character as Harley Quinn – the character is listed as Deranged Squad Girl – she happens to have been voiced by Tara Strong, who provided the voice for Harley in various animated and videogame projects. It does appear that the Harley Quinn appearance was what it was, just a nod to the fans, but who knows what will happen in the future. In fact, Guggenheim has confirmed that the Suicide Squad will be returning at some point. Since this latest ARROW episode saw them lose a member of the team, that opens up a vacancy. As ARROW’s promo work showed some shots of Harley that didn’t appear in this latest episode, we wonder…

On what’s in the future of the Suicide Squad, Guggenheim added, “We certainly tease two things: a backstory for Oliver and Amanda, and we tease a sense of future involvement. I don’t want to spoil too much where we’re headed, but you haven’t seen the last of Amanda, and you haven’t seen the last of the Suicide Squad.”

Judging by how SUICIDE SQUAD panned out, logic seems to suggest that Oliver Queen and Amanda Waller may have to combine their forces to take down the vicious threat of Deathstroke the Terminator.
