Say it with us… there’s new DOCTOR WHO next month. Yep, Peter Capaldi’s first series as the latest incarnation of the Time Lord is getting closer by the day. The BBC have released a new image from DEEP BREATH, the Steven Moffat-penned series opener, showing the new Doctor and companion Clara (Jenna Coleman) in period attire for their latest visit to the Victorian era.

Speaking to EW, showrunner Moffat acknowledged that, though the episode also sees the return of the Paternoster Gang – Silurian detective Vastra, her Victorian wife Jenny and Sontaran butler Strax – Capaldi’s debut is the big selling point.

It’s a big introduction—he’s the new Doctor. There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode,” Moffat said, “It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.”

DEEP BREATH airs on BBC One on 23rd August. Until then, check back on Starburst for further updates (or read that script you downloaded… but if the BBC ask, we told you not to.)
