The CW network have revealed they’re looking to follow up the success of SMALLVILLE with another show centred around the exploits of a fan favourite DC Comics character – this time out, it’s the turn of Mort Weisinger & George Papp’s creation GREEN ARROW.

The pilot will be scripted and executive produced by writers Greg Berlanti (WRATH OF THE TITANS), Marc Guggenheim (GREEN LANTERN) and Andrew Kreisberg (FRINGE). The latter is also an accomplished writer in the comicbook field, and has handled the character before with an successful run on GREEN ARROW/BLACK CANARY.

Deadline reports that X-FILES vet David Nutter will take the reigns in the helming department.

The series will not follow the exploits of the Green Arrow character that appeared in SMALLVILLE’s later seasons, nor will it necessarily follow the old DC Comics continuity. Just as long as it doesn’t touch the New 52 approach and turn the character into an obnoxious, cocky prick we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

ARROW, as it will be known, will strike sometime in 2013. If the CW likes what it sees in the pilot and decides to order a full series that is. Hopefully it will fare better than DC’s aborted WONDER WOMAN series…

What with DEADMAN, POWERS, 100 BULLETS and THE DAMNED all in active development, (and various others being touted, including Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN), it looks like we’ll soon be seeing the world of comicbooks conquering TV in the same way they’ve monopolised our multiplexes.
