Former Doctor Who show runner Russell T Davies returns to TV next month for the first time since 2011’s Torchwood: Miracle Day with his lavish, ambitious new children’s science-fiction adventure series Wizards Vs Aliens.

The 12-episode series, created to fill the gap in the schedule following the end of The Sarah Jane Adventures due to the death of its star Elisabeth Sladen last April, was created by Davies and Phil Ford and is centred around 16 year-old wizard Tom Clarke (Scott Haran) and his boffin best friend Benjamin Sherwood (Percelle Ascott). Together they battle with the evil alien Nekross, who come to Earth to consume anyone who has a connection to the magic arts. Former Sarah Jane writers Gareth Roberts, Joseph Lidster and Clayton Hickman have also contributed scripts to the series which will debut on CBBC in October and other cast members include former Doctor Who guest stars Annette Badland, Nina Sosanya and Don Gilet as well as former Bill/EastEnders star Michael Higgs. Brian Blessed has been cast as the leader of the villainous Nekros – Starburst advises viewers to keep a finger poised over the ‘volume’ button of their remotes when he turns up on screen.

The BBC have just released a ’hero’ poster to publicise the series…
