Writer/producer Bryan Fuller hasn’t really been around since HEROES was put out to pasture in 2009, but boy is he making up for lost time now. Not only is he developing THE MUNSTERS reboot MOCKINGBIRD LANE, and ‘Dr. Lecter: The Early Years’ series HANNIBAL, but now he’s revealed that there might be still be a chance that he will get to dabble in the world of STAR TREK too.

It’s long been a desire of Fuller’s to bring STAR TREK back to our TV screens, and there’s been much talk about him co-producing with Bryan Singer (X-MEN) in the past, but with J.J. Abrams’ movie series doing so well at the box office it seems there was a bit of resistance from Paramount to risk it so soon. Here’s what Fuller had to say to EW in a recent interview regarding the project:

“Bryan and I are big fans of Trek and have discussed a take on what we would do, and we would love to do it. I don’t think anything is going to happen in any official capacity until after the next movie comes out. And I’m sure it would be wisely under J.J. Abrams’ purview of what happens. He’s the guardian of Trek right now.

So in short, no movement at all yet, but given the clout and determination of these guys we shouldn’t rule it out post-STAR TREK 2. One thing is essential though, this needs to be supervised completely by J.J. Abrams to ensure these guys don’t undo the fine work he’s doing with the new canon. It’s also important that somebody gives Bryan Singer something to take his mind off his insistence that BATTLESTAR GALACTICA needs another reboot.

As for HANNIBAL, Fuller is much more confident, with the showrunner revealing that he pitched a mighty seven season arc to NBC, the first two of which are already mapped out.

Though the network has ordered an initial 13 episodes, we still remain skeptical that this show will find much of audience unless Fuller can really hit upon something really special. The spectacular failure of HANNIBAL RISING in 2007 proved that Lecter without Hopkins is a hard sell indeed.

We shall see what Fuller has in store when HANNIBAL hits our screens later this year.
