In some rather surprising news, ShockTillYouDrop is reporting that NBC’s ROSEMARY’S BABY mini-series has cast Zoe Saldana as the titular Rosemary Woodhouse. Best known for huge movies like J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK films and James Cameron’s AVATAR, consider us a little surprised to see a name as big as Saldana’s attached to the series. The actress will also be seen later this year as Gamora in James Gunn’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY for Marvel Studios.

ROSEMARY’S BABY is a 1967 novel from Ira Levin but is likely better known for Roman Polaniski’s 1968 movie adaptation, featuring Mia Farrow in the lead role. The premise of the story sees the pregnant Rosemary becoming increasingly worried that her husband has made a pact with her neighbours to use the unborn child as a sacrifice. In this retelling, the action will be set in Paris.

The NBC mini-series, which will be overseen by Lionsgate, is being written by Scott Abbot and AMERICAN HORROR STORY’s James Wong, with Joshua Maurer, Alix Witlin and David Stern acting as executive producers. EUROPA, EUROPA’s Agnieszka Holland is attached to direct this latest telling of Levin’s story.
