DEXTER may be leaving our screens forever in just 3 short weeks, but serial killers on TV have never been better represented in serialized drama. HANNIBAL’s Dr. Lecter hasn’t been this well-received since SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, there’s a cult of the crafty bastards in THE FOLLOWING, and BATES MOTEL is chronicling the birth of notorious, mummy-lovin’ killer Norman Bates. And joining them soon, Bret Easton Ellis’ AMERICAN PSYCHO, who’s getting the TV treatment over at FX via Lionsgate TV. While details are in the early stage, it’s known that the story will follow on from the acclaimed 2000 movie, catching up with Patrick Bateman in his late fifties. It’s also reported that the story will see him training a young protégé. Guess this strips any ambiguity out of the source’s superb ending then! We were all able to comfortably ignore the existence of the criminally shameless cash-in that was 2002’s AMERICAN PSYCHO 2: ALL AMERICAN GIRL, but this won’t be as easy to dismiss as non-canon. Shame. Still, at least this is a better way to go than the reboot they threatened us with back in 2011!

Clearly Christian Bale will not be returning to the role, so the search is one for our new Bateman. Any ideas?
