With AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW currently being written, showrunner Ryan Murphy has been talking about what lies ahead in the latest season of the fan-favourite show.
Given how the show is to focus on one of the USA’s last remaining freak shows, this throws up a whole host of possibilities in terms of characters. Speaking to EW, Murphy teased that FREAK SHOW will feature a character called Clown Killer, one he calls “the most terrifying clown ever.”
On the setting of this new AHS series, Murphy added, “It was always a concept that Jessica and I talked about early on. It was always her favourite one, which I thought was funny. I’ve had many different versions that I’ve run by her. I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light but it’s turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the ASYLUM season. But look – if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it’s going to be dark.”
As well as a crazed clown, it was also confirmed that there will be a very AMERICAN HORROR STORY take on the classic bearded lady. Reports of a Eurovision tie-in are unconfirmed at this point.
What is confirmed is that the returning Jessica Lange will be playing a German in charge of a 1950s freak show in Jupiter, Florida. Key to her show are what she calls her “unusuals”. In typical AHS fashion, this fourth season will see the return of several other familiar faces, such as Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Jamie Brewer, Denis O’Hare and Frances Conroy. One new addition is former Ben Grimm, Michael Chiklis. It’s said that Chiklis will play the father of Peters character.
Expect more on this new season as it becomes available.
