With this week’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. picking up in the aftermath of THOR: THE DARK WORLD, it’s also been revealed that, all being well, the show will crossover with Marvel’s next cinematic outing, CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Executive producer Jed Whedon has been speaking to TV Guide about the plans.

Whedon said, “The Marvel brand carries with it a lot of familiar faces. We’re trying to flesh out the world of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the established characters and the characters we’re introducing to build out the larger organisation that we operate in. That’s where some of the fun can be had.”

As for crossing over with THE WINTER SOLDIER, which is due for a 4th April, 2014 release, Whedon added, “Nick Fury is in that one, and S.H.I.E.L.D. makes an appearance, so we will definitely try to tee-up some stuff and probably play a little bit of the fallout from that film. We’re hoping to do some cool stuff.”

One AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.’s hottest topics is that seemingly return from the dead of Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson. Discussing this matter, Whedon said, “We know that there’s going to be a lot of theories and there’s no chance that whatever we reveal won’t, at some point, be written on the internet. We’re just trying to come up with ways to make it surprising or make it not how they expected it to unravel. We know what it is, but we know that no one else does yet.”

Personally, AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has been massively hit and miss for me. In fact, mostly miss, if we’re honest. It seems scared to take any major risks, leading to often laboured, predictable stories already. We’re willing to give it a chance, and sincerely hope it does start to up the ante a little soon.

While we wait it out, here’s a trailer for next week’s episode, ‘Repairs’…

Synopsis:

“Coulson and his team are haunted by a mysterious force that threatens to destroy them all, and only a secret from May’s past can save them.”
