In a bonkers turn of events, Turkey’s Family and Social Policies Ministry is seeking to ban the beloved sandbox game MINECRAFT. The government agency was alerted to the game after various claims that it encouraged children to behave violently towards enemies and animals in-game, prompting an investigation. A separate report indicates that children who spend time in the game are at risk of ‘social isolation’.

While Turkey isn’t necessarily associated as country which bans video games, its government does have a strong stance on censorship, especially when it comes to the Internet. Some of the 67,000-plus blocked pages include Richard Dawkins homepage, 4chan and, most bizarrely, Wikipedia pages on human genitals.

MINECRAFT is regularly praised for its ability as an educational tool and a beautiful way to articulate the imagination. It comes down to little more than demonising video games . . . again.

Still, at least GTA is getting a break.
