In our best Darth Vader voices, “Nooooooooooooooooooo!” screamed the majority of us here at Moonbase Alpha at this news. Yes, sadly TRON 3 is no longer happening.

Whilst many were not all too fussed about 2010’s TRON: Legacy, that film has a lot of fans at STARBURST. As a result, when it was revealed earlier this year that a third TRON was to happen we all rejoiced and, dare I say, sank a few whiskeys to this rapturous news.

At the last count, TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski was returning for this third movie, with stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde returning as Sam Flynn and Quorra, respectively.

Now comes word, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, that Disney has scrapped all plans to go into production on TRON 3. It may be something that the House of Mouse revisits down the line, but a third TRON won’t be happening in the foreseeable future.

No plot details were known about TRON 3, although it was believed that Cillian Murphy would be expanding his role from TRON: Legacy and there was even talk that Oscar-winning Jared Leto was set to land a meaty part in the film.

Here’s hoping that TRON 3 does happen at some point. Until that day, slap on the stunning Daft Punk soundtrack from TRON: Legacy and take yourself back to The Grid one more time.
