Transformers is no longer exclusive to cars – in the teaser trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, alien robots show up as big-ass monkeys and birds, too.

Per the synopsis: Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a 1994 globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film arrives in cinemas in June 2023.

That means that Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) and his team of Autobots (Bumblebee, Pete Davidson’s Mirage, John DiMaggio’s Stratosphere, Liza Koshy’s Arcee, and Cristo Fernández’s Wheeljack) will be making new friends in the shape of the Maximals, robots who are shaped as oversized animals.

Led by Ron Perlman’s Optimus Primal (King Kong’s cousin in the trailer), the Maximal team include Michelle Yeoh’s Airazor, David Sobolov’s Rhinox, and Cheetor; they’ll be key in facing the Predacons and Terrorcons, themselves led by Peter Dinklage’s Scourge.

This entry marks the seventh instalment of the live-action Transformers film series and will serve as a sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts speeds into cinemas June 9th 2023. Watch the teaser trailer below:
