In terms of terrifying vocals in the world of horror, they don’t get any more impressive and outright eerie than the booming tones of Tony Todd. Well, now comes word that the Candyman star will be lending his voice to a new audio adaptation of Bram Stroker’s Dracula.

Bleak December Inc. will be producing the adap, which is apparently the first of several planned new audio takes on classic horror tales of yesteryear. It will initially be released for download via Fangoria’s Musick label and will feature a full cast and an operatic score. Anthony D.P. Mann, who is the filmmaker who founded Bleak December, will be executive producing and also taking on the role of Van Helsing. The early word on this adaptation from Mann is that it will centre on “a frightening Victorian-era Count Dracula in the classic mold, featuring one of the greatest voices in the business. I’m not only a creator, but a fan of genre film – and Tony Todd is such a coup for us. I’m a long-time fan.”

On this news, Todd himself said, “I’m honoured and thrilled to form a partnership with Bleak December Inc. and Fangoria Musick, in presenting the first of hopefully many audio recordings of classic horror characters. First up perhaps most iconic of them all. Yes, I’m so proud to lend my voicing to Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

The current plan is for Dracula to be released around October time to coincide with Halloween. After that, Bleak December has plans for new audio takes on classics such as Frankenstein, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Phantom of the Opera, and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.
