Even if the film received a mixed reaction from both fans and critics alike, a sequel to last year’s HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS has already been announced by Paramount Properties. Writer/director Tommy Wirkola is on board to return, and he’s been giving an update on the project to ShockTillYouDrop.com.

On where things are currently at, Wirkola said, “I’ve written the script for it. I’ve given it to Paramount and it’s up to them now. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Jeremy is so busy these days.”

He added, “They really liked the script I gave them. The first film was a learning curve for me working in the studio system and the script I wrote for the original was so different. We ended up taking a lot out and altering stuff that first time. I’m smarter now. I tried taking what I learned and still delivered a sequel script that’s an R-rated action film.”

In terms of numbers, the first film, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, took $226 million across the globe. From a $50 million budget, that’s not massive numbers but it is decent enough for an R-rated film.

Whilst a HANSEL & GRETEL sequel it currently being worked on, we’re more interested in the film that Wirkola is currently promoting: DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS DEAD. Sadly, we’re still waiting for an official UK release date for that particular sequel.
