In some rather awesome news, it’s been confirmed that Tom Welling is joining FOX’s Lucifer for its third season.

Welling, of course, is best known to genre fans for playing The CW’s Superman-in-waiting in Smallville. As well as playing the young Clark Kent in that much-loved show, he’s also starred in the likes of the remake of The Fog and the Cheaper by the Dozen franchise.

In Lucifer, Welling will be playing Marcus Pierce, a character described as “an accomplished police lieutenant who is everything Lucifer is not – strategic, reserved and well-respected. But perhaps even more annoying are all the things they have in common. Both men are charming, charismatic and handsome as hell. So when Pierce starts developing a connection with Decker, Lucifer’s devilish traits are inflamed.”

Lucifer returns for its third season on October 2nd.
