The end of last year saw Warner Brothers and DC announce a star-studded line-up for David Ayer’s villain-centric SUICIDE SQUD. Despite having been on board as Rick Flag, Tom Hardy has now left the project.

The Hollywood Reporter is the outlet responsible for breaking the news, although the exact reasoning for the actor’s departure is unclear at this stage. Early speculation suggests that filming on Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s THE REVENANT is taking longer than expected, meaning Hardy is tied up with that. As such, the Flag role, often depicted as the leader of Task Force X, is now vacant.

Still on board for the movie are Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevigne as Enchantress.

SUICIDE SQUAD is currently scheduled for an August 5th, 2016 release. As for Hardy, he’ll been seen next in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD.
