Today brings word that Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise is set to star in Universal’s upcoming Mummy remake.

Variety is reporting that the Mission: Impossible star is wanted to headline Alex Kurtzman’s redo of the classic monster property which will serve as the launching pad for Universal’s new shared universe of monster movies. No details are known on which role Cruise will be playing, although you’d have to think it’ll be the hero of the piece. Of course, this isn’t the first time that the three-time Oscar nominee has been linked to Universal’s new monster realm as he was previously in talks to star in the upcoming Van Helsing movie.

The last we’d heard about The Mummy is that it was open to having either a male or female monster, with casting currently looking at either of the sexes. And this news comes hot on the heels of rumours that Angelina Jolie is being looked at for the titular role in a new Bride of Frankenstein.

Kurtzman’s Mummy redo is currently set for a March 24th, 2017 release, and that will then be followed by an unknown other monster movie on March 30th, 2018.

As ever, expect more on all of this as and when it develops.
