THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! Whilst that may be the tagline of the franchise, that’s certainly not the case when it comes to the property as a whole. As well as sequels, TV series, comic books, etc, Summit Entertainment is developing a HIGHLANDER reboot. Now comes word that Tom Cruise is being lined up for a role in the redo.

The Wrap is reporting that Summit is intent on getting Cruise on board to play a role similar to the immortal Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, played the by the legendary Sean Connery in the 1986 original movie. Whether Cruise ends up signing on for the film remains to be seen, but Summit are seemingly keen to get the actor involved.

Whilst there are no plot specifics known for the reboot just yet, chances are it will follow at least some of the original ’86 film. That particular effort starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior who has fought for centuries against other immortals. MacLeod has to face one final battle against the savage Kurgan, who wants to be the last man standing in this war of immortals.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing this new HIGHLANDER, although no release details have been pencilled in at this early stage.
