One of the most unique and brilliant genre TV shows of the last few years, particularly if you’re into laughs and heavy metal, is TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL. It may not be as well-known as some shows, but if you’ve seen it then you’ll have likely got hooked on it. Sadly, the show only managed two seasons before the plug was pulled, leaving fans desperate to see what happened to Todd Smith and his pals. Fear not, for we are finally going to get at least some semblance of closure with an animated movie that will wrap all of the show’s loose ends up.

Titled TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL: THE END OF THE END, this feature will once again be produced by Aircraft Pictures, Corvid Pictures and Frantic Films, with Raven Banner executive producing and distributing. Two of the show’s original creators, Craig David Wallace and Charles Picco, are back on board. The duo will be penning the tale, whilst Wallace will direct. Shawn Pierce is also involved on the musical side of the film.

On the news, Wallace released a statement, “Our fans rallied and we raised partial funding through an insanely successful Indiegogo campaign, giving our fans the ending they deserve – a full-length animated feature (with all new metal musical numbers) – that answers the age-old question ‘Gee, I wonder what happens next?’”

Raven Banner’s Manager Partner Michael Paszt added, “Being fans of the show ourselves, we jumped at the opportunity to get involved. A TV series with a hardcore following, heavy metal music with a tough of SOUTH PARK and a dash of Manga for taste. What more can we ask for?”

In case you’ve never seen TODD & THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL, which aired on Syfy over here in the UK, the basic premise involves a group of high school students, most with a love of metal music, working together to stop the Book of Pure Evil from causing havoc in their school and beyond. Each episode would see the Book latch onto a different person, causing them to do crazy, sinister things to try and make their life better. Just as Todd et al would track down the Book and its current occupier, it would fly off in the search of finding another host. In the background of this was a group of Satanists, pulling the strings in the small town and looking to claim the Book as their own. SFX heavy and full of humour, this metal-fest was a breath of fresh air when it debuted. Inexplicably it’s run was cut short by Space, its Canadian home, after just two seasons.

As far as talent goes, all of the principal cast of the show, such as Alex House, Maggie Castle, Bill Turnbull, Melanie Leishman, Chris Leavins and Jason Mewes, will be returning to lend their vocals to the animated feature. No specific release date has been given at this early stage, although a Canadian release is being targeted for a second half of 2015 release. Here’s hoping us UK folks don’t have to wait too long to see Todd’s return.
