With plentiful comic book adaptations as far as the eye can see these days, it’s now the turn of Witchblade to get the live-action treatment.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that the fan favourite property is to get its own TV show over at NBC, and the network has brought in The Vampire Diaries’ Caroline Dries and CSI’s Carol Mendelsohn to put together a script for the series.

For those not familiar with Witchblade, the Brian Haberlin, Marc Silvestri, David Wohl and Michael Turner-created comic debuted in 1995 through Image Comics’ Top Cow imprint. The main focus of the book was Sara Pezzini, a New York detective who gains superhuman powers from an ancient artifact when hunting down a serial killer. This artifact, known as the Witchblade, gives Pezzini the ability to battle supernatural forces, although she’s not the first person to hold this power, as many others have also been in possession of the Witchblade.

The comic ran for 185 issues from 1995 to 2015, and fans were given a two-season live-action TNT series in 2001 and a 24-episode anime series in 2006.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
