We hate to say we told you so, but…

Last week we brought news that Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day sequel was to be titled Independence Day Resurgence, and that has now been officially confirmed during a livestream Q&A event.

Of course, title reveals are a big thing these days and 20th Century Fox revealed the news via a flashy video:

The official synopsis for Independence Day Resurgence reads:

“We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle of an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”

At this stage, the cast of Insurgence is made up of Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, Brent Spiner and Maika Monroe.

To be directed by Roland Emmerich, Independence Day Resurgence is set for a June 24th, 2016 release.
