It seems that this week has been full of DC-based news that has left us all aghast and mouthing obscenities, which is why it makes us all kinds of happy to report some movement on one of the DC projects we’re hugely looking forward to: Titans.

Following last month’s casting of Teagan Croft as Raven, Deadline today brings word that the live-action Teen Titans show has brought in 24: Legacy’s Anna Diop as Koriand’r, aka Starfire. In the comic book lore of the Titans, Starfire is a major player, with her even getting romantically involved with Dick Grayson at various points. But then again, these days it’s likely easier to list those who haven’t had some hanky-panky with Dick. For Starfire, though, the character debuted back in 1980’s DC Comics Presents #26. An alien princess from a warrior planet, she ends up seeking asylum on Earth; a quest that eventually sees her become a member of the Teen Titans. Tough-as-nails and straight-talking, Starfire’s main abilities are that she can fire energy bolts and is able to fly.

The early synopsis for Titans reads:

Titans follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. Titans is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.

Titans will premiere at a to-be-confirmed date next year, airing on Warners Brothers upcoming on-demand streaming service.
