Last week saw director Tim Miller depart Deadpool 2, but it appears he now has another project in his sights.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Miller and his Blur Studio collaborator Jeff Fowler are working with Sony Pictures for a part-live-action, part-CGI Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Miller would executive produce and help develop the film, with Fowler making his feature directorial debut on Sonic. Neal H. Moritz, best known for his work on the Fast and Furious series, will also be serving as a producer, whilst Golan the Insatiable’s Patrick Casey and Josh Miller are working on the script.

On this news, Miller said, “Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

The character of Sonic made his debut way back in 1991 on the SEGA Mega Drive. A superfast hedgehog, the blue furball sped around various levels as he collected gold rings on his quest to stop Doctor Robotnik and free a bunch of captive animals. Following that, plenty of further games, cartoon series, comics, and any merch imaginable followed for Sonic, including the addition of friends such as Tails and Knuckles.
