Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is expected to end its Broadway run in January after a tumultuous two years of legal wranglings, creative obstacles and actors injuries.

The heated and very public battle between the show’s director and producers certainly didn’t help the cause, with the Tony-winning director Julie Taymor abandoning the project altogether and suing the producers before settling out of court.

The $75 million Spider-Man stage production is the most expensive in Broadway’s history and although the initial shows were sell-outs subsequent performances found more and more seats remaining bum-less.

Featuring the music and lyrics of U2′s Edge and Bono, who are also producers, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark’s investors are undoubtedly hoping for a return on their investments when the show opens in its new home, Las Vegas. And heaven knows Bono needs that extra cash to fly his hat to all those third world destinations when he’s on his charity high horse.

So after fifty years of battling super villains and weathering jolly J. Jonah Jameson’s scathing editorial attacks, Bono and The Edge have succeeded in finally chasing the Web Head out of New York. Ah, J.J. If only you’d have known sooner just how simple it was. You’d needn’t have wasted so much time and effort on those Spider-Slayers.
