In an announcement that has surprised and delighted fans, Big Finish has today announced four boxsets of stories starring John Hurt as The War Doctor. Each is three discs, and the first set, Only the Monstrous, has been written by Nicholas Briggs and also stars Jacqueline Pearce. This will be released in December 2015 and be followed by Infernal Devices in February 2016.

If that wasn’t excitement enough, Big Finish has also announced a new Eighth Doctor boxset, with the simple title The Eighth Doctor: The Time War. Following Paul McGann’s listing of his Big Finish companions on the anniversary special, Night of the Doctor, this places Big Finish right at the centre of Doctor Who canon. This will be available in November 2017 and is listed under the Big Finish New Series range, along with other recently announced titles.
