Having already taken it to the pilot stage, Amazon Studios has announced that they’ve officially ordered a full season of The Tick. A new take on an old favourite, the show will debut on Amazon Prime next year.

The official blurb on The Tick reads:

In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, the new The Tick series follows an underdog accountant with zero powers who comes to realize his city is owned by a global supervillain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.

Peter Serafinowicz is starring as the titular Tick, with Jackie Earle Haley, Griffin Newman, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez, and Brendan Hines also along for the ride.

The Tick himself was created by Ben Edlund back in 1986, beginning life as the mascot for New England Comics. The character would eventually get his own stories, with a two-season animated series then debuting in 1994 before Patrick Warburton took on the titular hero in a quickly-canned 2001 live-action show.

Edlund himself will be executive producing The Tick with Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. Wally Pfister will be directing from a script put in place by Edlund.
