With many genre fans having guessed as much, it’s been confirmed that the ‘big bad’ of The Flash’s fourth season will indeed by The Thinker.

Also known as simply Clifford DeVoe, the rogue had already been teased in the show by both Abra Kadabra and the future Barry Allen, and many had pieced together that he’d been the main villain of Season 4 – particularly after it had been previously confirmed that the next season would focus on a non-speedster villain. Now, TVLine has revealed that, as presumed, The Thinker will be the one tormenting Central City and beyond when The Flash returns later this year.

For those unfamiliar with this bad guy, DeVoe is a crazy genius who is able to use mind control and telekinesis thanks to his patented Thinking Cap. In the comic book realm, The Thinker was actually largely a villain tied to the Jay Garrick version of The Flash, with him debuting way back in 1943’s All-Flash #12.

With The Flash’s third season having come to a close this past week here in the UK, the final moments of the season finale saw Barry Allen apparently imprisoned in the Speed Force in order to save the planet. Whether Barry really is gone for good, we’ll have to wait and see, but we wouldn’t be putting any money on him not donning the famed red outfit by the first few episodes of the next season just yet.

The Flash’s fourth season will premiere this October.
