In some disappointing news, it appears that the planned Tales from the Darkside relaunch is now off the table.

The last we’d heard on the project was that The CW were developing a new series of the 80s horror favourite, with Joe Hill having even penned a pilot episode.

Deadline is reporting that the network has now decided to pass on the idea, with the anthology aspect of the show seemingly a big factor in the decision. In fact, the outlet reports that Tales from the Darkside “had been getting traction with a well-executed pilot, but its anthology format was a source of uncertainty about how a full season would look, and the project was in need of a showrunner.”

That surely poses the question of why The CW were looking to relaunch an anthology show when they are supposedly not keen on the anthology format? Personally, we love a good anthology show or movie… and we’re not alone on that front, with plenty of horror hounds out there having a lot of love for the likes of Tales from the Darkside, Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone, Creepshow, Body Bags, Trick ‘r’ Treat, The Outer Limits and even the Friday the 13th and Freddy’s Nightmares shows.

For now at least, it appears that the hopes of a new Tales from the Darkside are done.
