The Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman-starring THE STRANGERS is a home invasion movie which had quite the impact on horror fans. Despite generally splitting opinion, the film hit the right notes with enough people for a sequel to be talked about. Then things went quiet. Very quiet. As in nothing has been heard on a sequel for seemingly years. Now finally comes some serious news on a follow-up moving forward and even getting a director.

The Wrap is reporting that DECEPTION’s Marcel Langenegger is being lined up to direct THE STRANGERS 2, with the story supposedly to pick things up right from the end of the 2008 film. The trio of masked killers – known simply as Man in the Mask, Pin Up Girl, and Dollface – will this time move their attention to a mobile home park. When a group of teenagers discover the trio’s murder spree, themselves and their family become the focus of the threesome’s attacks. Additionally, there’s already tension amongst the family as this trip is the family’s last before the troubled daughter of the group (there’s always one, isn’t there?) is to be sent off to boarding school

CHOSEN’s Ben Katai is to pen the screenplay, with the sequel looking to start shooting in the spring.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
