The First Omen, a prequel to the original 1976 The Omen, is now in development at 20th Century Studios. The project has had a few stops and starts over the years, but this time looks locked and loaded; action sci-fi Legion and crime-fantasy Channel Zero director Arkasha Stevenson is attached to make this her feature directorial debut, Deadline reports.

Stevenson will co-write the script with Tim Smith. David S. Goyer (Sandman, Hellraiser reboot, Foundation) and Keith Levine are producing via Phantom Four, with Gracie Wheelan overseeing for the production label.

The original movie starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, and Harvey Stephens, and follows Damien Thorn, a five-year-old child who is replaced at birth by his father – unbeknownst to the latter’s wife – after their biological child dies shortly after birth. As a series of violent deaths and other mysterious events occur around the family, the couple come to suspect that Damien could be the prophesied Antichrist.

Thanks to the horror’s box office success, The Omen spawned a franchise: first was 1978’s Damien: Omen II, then 1981’s The Final Conflict, and in 1991, The Awakening. It was then rebooted by director John Moore in 2006 with Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, and David Thewlis starring.
