That’s right folks, we’re getting baby Yoda on a big screen! The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new film in the Star Wars universe to be directed by everyone’s fave, Jon Favreau, is set to launch at Lucasfilm.

Favreau – who created The Mandalorian series for Disney+ and Lucasfilm –, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni will produce the feature, which the studio said will be the first Star Wars movie to go into production since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker saw fans bid farewell to Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.” Meanwhile, Kennedy said: “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

Pedro Pascal has led the series since its premiere in 2019 as the titular Mandalorian, also known as Din Djarin, a warrior who reluctantly (at first) must ensure Grogu’s safety. The show’s third season released last year, and it has served to launch a number of spinoffs, including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka.

Filming on this The Mandalorian & Grogu feature is expected to begin in Spring. While Lucasfilm has yet to specify a date for the film, there is currently an untitled Star Wars feature set for December 19th, 2025.
