HBO released the very first footage for The Last of Us ahead of the House of the Dragon premiere last night. In a trailer that featured all the network’s upcoming shows, a short teaser to the Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey-starring video game adaptation was shown.

The clip shows Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) cross a snowy bridge, as the latter is heard saying: “Everybody I’ve cared for has either died or left me.” Cue glimpses of weapons training, running away, and other action fare.

“You have no idea what loss is,” Joel is seen responding.

Per the series logline, The Last of Us takes place twenty years after modern civilisation has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heart-breaking journey as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin helm the series, with the cast also including Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Joel’s younger brother and former soldier, Merle Dandridge as the head of the Fireflies, Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah, Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman as survivalists Frank and Bill, Jeffrey Pierce as quarantine zone rebel Perry, and Anna Torv as Joel’s smuggler partner, Jess.
