A brief trailer is now available for Gigi Saul Guerrero’s short film EL GIGANTE, about a young Mexican man who illegally crossed into the US being kidnapped and dumped in a wrestling ring to face off with the titular titanic luchador.

A slightly expanded adaptation of the first chapter of depraved madman Shane McKenzie’s novel MUERTE CON CARNE, the short was funded on Kickstarter with a view to showcasing the potential of the material and attracting funding for adapting the reminder of the book into a feature film.

Prior to EL GIGANTE, Guerrero’s previous shorts had already begun to make a name for her. DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, about a group of strippers taking brutal vengeance on their lecherous and abusive clientele, has been included in Mexican horror anthology MÉXICO BÁRBARO, along with its sugar-skulled strip club madam used as a marketing image. MATADOR, featuring young women held captive by a sadistic bullfighter fighting back against their tormentor, was a runner-up out well over 500 entries in the open contest to produce a segment for THE ABCS OF DEATH 2.

With material of such strength behind her Guerrero is certainly a name on the rise, and it’s only a matter of time before we see her first full-length feature, which will be quite a sight to behold whenever such a thing appears.
