With a third Kingsman movie in early development, it appears that the franchise’s main star won’t be returning for said threequel.

Taron Egerton, who plays Eggsy in the Kingsman franchise, has seemingly ruled himself out of Kingsman 3. As he explained to Yahoo UK, “I don’t know how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie. That doesn’t mean I won’t be in Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me. I’m sad that I won’t be on that journey with him, but it’s not the last you’ve seen of Eggsy.”

While this may come as a surprise to some, you have to remember that the next installment in the series – currently titled Kingsman: The Great Game – will actually be a prequel of sorts that will look at the famed Kingsman organisation and its history dating back to the 1900s.

In addition to this prequel, there is still plans for a straight-up Kingsman 3, not to mention a Statesman film, and a Kingsman TV effort. So while The Great Game is the third Kingsman movie, it’s not Kingsman 3.

At present, Kingsman: The Great Game is set for a November 2019 release.
