First there was the surprise 2008 hit Taken. This was followed by the unimaginatively titled Taken 2 (what was wrong with calling it Taken Away… with extra prawn balls, please) in 2012, and in 2014 we had Taken the Piss, ahem, we mean Taken 3.

But now the Taken movie franchise is taken (see what we did there?), a rest on the big screen and will instead be appearing on a TV screen in your home in the very near future.

NBC have ordered a full season of what will be a prequel to the movie series. Star Liam Neeson is not involved with the project, but Luc Besson, the original film’s creator, has developed the TV series. He is currently seeking a head writer and showrunner to steer the adventures of a young Bryan Mills (Neeson’s character in the three movies) as he learns his very particular set of skills.

Besson will serve as executive producer on the series along with Matthew Gross, Edouard de Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros.
