Stories have circulated over the weekend that the Thunder God’s next outing, Thor: Ragnarok, is close to finding a director.

The Wrap is reporting that Taika Waititi is in talks with Marvel Studios to direct the 2017 return of The Son of Odin. New Zealander Waititi is a huge favourite here at STARBURST, with him having helmed the fantastic Eagle vs Shark, the wondrous Boy, and the hugely amusing What We Do in the Shadows. The director may also be familiar to genre fans for playing Hal Jordan’s best mate in 2011’s much-maligned Green Lantern.

These latest stories say that Waititi has beaten out competition from Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, We’re the Millers’ Rawson Marshall Thurber, and Goosebumps’ Rob Letterman to become the new frontrunner for the gig.

Certain speculation claims that Waititi helming Thor: Ragnarok is a done deal, although Marvel Studios have yet to officially announce anything as of yet.

At this stage, the third solo outing for the God of Thunder is set for a November 3rd, 2017 release.
