Whilst certain genre fans are waiting for the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, there’s a small pocket of fans who are chomping at the bit for Toho’s Godzilla: Resurgence. And on that front, we’ve now been given an actual synopsis on Big G’s next outing.

Sadly, a cinematic release has yet to be confirmed for the film in any market bar Japan, but at least we’re getting some new info on the next adventure for the King of the Monsters. With the film also now confirmed for a runtime of 118 minutes, the synopsis (as translated from Japanese) reads:

A cause unknown, an accident has occurred in the tunnels of the Tokyo Bay Aqua Line, causing an emergency cabinet meeting to convene. Immediately afterwards, a huge creature appears, destroying town after town with its landing reaching the capital. The mysterious giant organism named “Godzilla”.

To be directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, Godzilla: Resurgence stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, Rando Yaguchi and Ren Osugi.

The film will hit Japanese cinemas on July 29th.
