With reports late last month suggesting a pilot order was close to happening, it’s now been announced that Syfy has greenlit a pilot for Krypton.

The idea for the show is to have it set on, you guessed it, Krypton 200 years ago, essentially focussing on Superman’s grandfather as the main character of the show. After the House of El has been pushed into the shadows, it’s now down to Kal-El’s ancestor to fight for his family’s honour and to stop his planet from falling into chaos.

On this news, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment’s Bill McGoldrick said, “Krypton is one of the most iconic stories in the comic book universe. In the talented hands of David S. Goyer and the DC Entertainment/Warner Horizon Television team, this exciting Syfy project will take viewers back to Superman’s home to show how the timeless legend began.”

As alluded to, Goyer, who amongst his vast genre credits has worked on Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will serve as executive producer whilst also penning the pilot’s story alongside Ian Goldberg.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
