With Supergirl now confirmed to have its second season aired on The CW, meaning she can appear alongside Grant Gustin’s Flash (again), Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, and the various other DC heroes and villains that the network has at its disposal, now comes word that her cousin is also going to be along for the ride. Yes, we’re talking about the Big Blue Boy Scout himself, Superman.

The CW has revealed that Supes will be appearing ‘proper’ in the first two episodes of Supergirl’s second season. For fans of the show, you’ll already be well are that we’ve kind of seen the Man of Steel already… ish. By that, we mean that the show gave us the odd sun-drenched cape shot here and there, plus Melissa Benoist’s Kara was shown online messaging Clark at various points, too. Added to that, we also saw a young Kal-El during the For the Girl Who Has Everything episode. Now though, we’re going to get an actual adult Superman who we will see on screen in all his glory.

On this news, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

This wouldn’t be the first time that The CW has given fans Superman, for the network aired Smallville for ten seasons. In fact, Smallville’s Clark Kent, Tom Welling, has often been rumoured to be turning up as Superman at some point, somewhere. That speculation usually had Welling turning up in The Flash, but could it be that we’ll finally get to see Tom Welling don the tights for an appearance in Supergirl? That’s us just completely getting ahead of ourselves with our fanboy thinking, but we can dream can’t we?

Regardless of whoever lands the Last Son of Krypton gig for Supergirl, they’re sure to have a whole load of expectation to live up to, which isn’t always easy. Just look at poor Henry Cavill…

Supergirl will commence its second season in the second half of this year.
