With Supergirl having returned to US screens this past Monday, there’s some news on a new hero for National City in this new season.

Who will that hero be? Yes, Superman has now arrived in the show (and fantastic he is!), but this new hero will actually be Mehcad Brooks’ James Olsen. James (don’t call him Jimmy!) will be taking on the mantle of The Guardian later in Season 2.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed, “James will decide he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick. It will cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara because he has decided not to tell her.”

The problem here is that Melissa Benoist’s Kara isn’t keen to support vigilantes, which is what The Guardian will be. As such, this will cause an issue between the pair. In addition to this, James will also have some assistance in the form of Jeremy Jordan’s Winn Schott.

In the comic book realm, the first person to be known as The Guardian was Jim Harper, a police officer who was tasked with cleaning up the slums of Metropolis. To help in his battle, Harper used a shield, which is something that Supergirl’s take on the character will also do.

Supergirl’s second season will debut on Sky1 on October 24th in the UK.
