We brought word over the last few weeks that a Supergirl-based TV show was being shopped around various US networks. Now comes news, courtesy of Deadline, that CBS has given a series commitment to the show. Greg Berlanti, best known for his work on ARROW and the upcoming THE FLASH, will combine with CHUCK’s Ali Adler to write and executive produce the series.

In terms of a title, the show is still waiting for an official name although most are referring to it simply as SUPERGIRL. Plot-wise, it’s said that the series will focus on Kara Zor-El, the cousin of a certain Man of Steel, as she starts to use her superpowers on Earth. The character of Supergirl has been seen twice previously in live-action, with Helen Slater starring in 1984’s SUPERGIRL movie and then Laura Vandervoort playing the character in The CW’s SMALLVILLE.

This show is the latest DC Entertainment property to get its own series, joining ARROW and the upcoming triumvirate of THE FLASH, GOTHAM and CONSTANTINE.

Expect more on this as it develops.
