With ARROW and the upcoming THE FLASH, GOTHAM and CONSTANTINE, the TV element of DC Entertainment is starting to shape-up nicely. Now comes word from various sources, mainly Bleeding Cool and E! Online, that Supergirl will be the next DC character to get her own TV series.

It’s said that DC Entertainment has pitched the show to several networks, with Michael Green on board to write and produce.  At this stage, it looks as if the show has been turned down by The CW; the network that previously housed SMALLVILLE, currently houses ARROW and will soon house THE FLASH. It’s not known whether the proposed series will have any ties to the DC Cinematic Universe, with the character of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, having previously been introduced into the canon of that world by way of a prequel comic.

As for Green, he has previous with comic book characters. Key to this, he co-wrote the first twelve issues of Supergirl’s New 52 relaunch. He also has writing credits for SMALLVILLE, HEROES and the Ryan Reynolds-starring GREEN LANTERN (but try not to hold that against him).

The character of Supergirl was given her own movie in 1984, headed up by Helen Slater. We’d then see the character played by Laura Vandervoort in several of SMALLVILLE’s later seasons.

Expect more on this as it develops.
