David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is still 5 months away from release, but there’s already talk of a sequel to the rogue-centric effort.

During a story centred on Ayer and Will Smith being in talks to join the Max Landis-penned Bright, Variety dropped in that both Ayer and Smith are working their schedules around in order to start shooting Suicide Squad 2 in 2017. Bright itself is being described as similar to Ayer’s End of Watch but with orcs and fairies. The current plan is to get production on that film started later this year so that Ayer and Smith are then free to start work on the Suicide Squad sequel next year.

Warner Brothers’ Suicide Squad is set to hits cinemas on August 5th, with Smith on board to star as Deadshot amongst a cast that also includes the likes of Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and will even feature an appearance from a certain Caped Crusader.

The buzz around Suicide Squad has been huge so far, and it looks as if Warner Brothers are already preparing plans for a follow-up to what could well be one of the genre favourites of this year.
